International Adoption Seminars
International Adoption Seminars

Adoption seminars and workshops are a great way to learn. ICF Seminars are hosted by people with adoption expertise, and often co-hosted by adoptive families.

On June 5th we will offer the "Adoption: Before & After" seminar in Tucson at the Oro Valley Library. On June 11th we offer the same seminar in Phoenix. Contact us for details.

Our next international adoption seminars will be:

"Becoming an International Family through Adoption"

& "What's So Different about Adoptive Parenting?"

Taken conjointly, these two seminars, combined with recommended reading and on-line classes, will fulfill your required ten hours of pre-adoption education.

Phoenix adoption seminars are presented at the Chandler Sunset Branch Library, 4930 W. Ray Road, Chandler AZ, 85226; on Ray Rd. between I-10 & Loop 101. Adoption seminars are also offered in Tucson at the Chinese Cultural Center and the Oro Valley Library.

All seminars are announced via our weekly Adoption Updates. Send us an email to be added to the list or simply request seminar dates and times.

Topics covered typically include information about the adoption process and the conditions that may affect children adopted from various countries. These include issues that are common to children living in impoverished settings or whose birth parents may have used drugs or alcohol, how children respond to adoption and how to adjust your expectations with love and understanding, the potential long term impact of institutionalization on children who lived in orphanages, emotional and attachment issues, and skills you can develop to ease the transition into becoming a multi-cultural and/or multi-racial family.

These topics are the essence of adoption education, and all agencies who are Hague accredited provide similar training. If you do not live close to our offices, we are able to either provide distance education or connect you with an agency that offers adoption education seminars. Just ask us!

Our standard classes include the following, but we are flexible and able to present topics that meet your specific requirements, as well.
Adoption 101: International Adoption Orientation
Adoption 201: Preparing to Adopt
Adoption 301: Issues in Adoption
Adoption 401: Older Child Adoption
Adoption 501: Post Adoption Transitions

ICF also participates in adoption conferences across the country. Our Director and Social Workers are available as guest speakers for professional groups, schools and community organizations. Let us know if you have ideas as to how we can reach out to other families who might adopt ~ there are many children waiting for forever families!
