International Adoption Seminars
Adoption seminars and workshops are a great way to learn. ICF Seminars are hosted by people with adoption expertise and often co-hosted by adoptive families. Phoenix adoption seminars are presented at the Chandler Sunset Branch Library, 4930 W. Ray Road, Chandler AZ, 85226; on Ray Rd. between I-10 & Loop 101. Adoption seminars are also offered in Tucson at the Casas Adobes Congregational Church on Oracle Rd., the Chinese Cultural Center on River Rd. and the Oro Valley Library. Please contact us for upcoming Seminar dates or sign up for the ICF Adoption Updates. Most seminars are presented in Arizona but we are also available to provide training programs at other locations by request. All seminars are announced via our weekly Adoption Updates. Send us an email to be added to the list or simply request seminar dates and times. Curricula includes information about the adoption process and the conditions that affect children adopted from various countries. These include issues common to children living in impoverished settings or whose birth parents may have used drugs or alcohol, how children respond to adoption and how to adjust your expectations with love and understanding, the potential long term impact of institutionalization on children who lived in orphanages, emotional and attachment issues, and skills you can develop to ease the transition into becoming a multi-cultural and/or multi-racial family. All Hague accredited agencies require adoption training. Some families attend seminars and others utilize on-line or DVD courses. The ICF seminar series are attenuated to meet Hague requirements. If you have other specific topics you would like us to address, let us know. We try to accommodate all families. Adoption 101: Inter-Country Adoption Overview (Hague 1-2) ICF families may fulfill adoption education requirements through a combination of adoption preparation resources, providing the complete spectrum of Hague required topics are covered. We have a list of recommended courses. ICF also participates in adoption conferences across the country.
